Stone, Light & Faith explores Islamic architecture, history and the civilisations that shaped the Muslim world.

From the earliest courtyard mosques to the great monuments of Baghdad, Cairo, Fez, Isfahan, Samarkand, Istanbul, India, China, Africa and Southeast Asia, this publication examines how faith, geography, materials and local traditions shaped the buildings people created.

It also looks beyond individual monuments to the movement of architectural ideas across regions and centuries. Domes, arches, courtyards, minarets, gardens and decorative traditions were continually borrowed, adapted and reimagined.

About Nuri Hakim

Nuri Hakim writes about faith, history, architecture and civilisations. His work explores how beliefs, cultures and inherited traditions have shaped the buildings and societies of the human world.

He is currently writing Stone, Light & Faith: A Journey Through 1,400 Years of Islamic Architecture.
